ONR takes reports of wrongdoing from workers at UK nuclear licenced sites seriously. Nuclear industry workers (or those otherwise involved in handling/transport of nuclear materials) and the supply chain can report serious wrongdoing, in the public interest – this is known as a ‘ making a protected disclosure’ or ‘whistleblowing’.
Before making a disclosure, please ensure it meets all of the following criteria:
- You must be a current or former nuclear industry worker including the supply chain;
- The disclosure must be in the public interest, which means it must affect others, rather than being a personal issue or grievance;
- The disclosure must relate to one of the following: a criminal offence; a breach of a legal obligation; a miscarriage of justice; health or safety; environmental damage; or the deliberate covering up of wrongdoing in these categories; and
- The disclosure must be in relation to a matter that we regulate (for example, an unreported radiological release on a nuclear licensed site).
Please note that we will ask you for supporting evidence to substantiate your report. While we accept anonymous disclosures, in most cases it is not possible to progress them without contacting you, as we are unlikely to have enough evidence to determine if the issues fall within our remit and take action.
