The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) can confirm that nuclear site licensee BAE Systems Marine Ltd has met the requirements of an Improvement Notice served in December 2014.
ONR issued the Improvement Notice following the licensee’s failure to demonstrate that only suitably qualified and experienced persons perform any duties which may affect the safety of operations at the Devonshire Dock Complex site in Barrow-in-Furness, or any other duties at the site required under its licence conditions.
Having closely monitored the licensee’s work over the past 15 months, ONR now considers that adequate arrangements have been implemented to comply with the Improvement Notice.
In meeting the requirements, BAE Systems Marine Ltd undertook a fundamental analysis of the issues and a significant amount of work to deliver both compliance with the Notice itself and greater alignment with ONR’s regulatory expectations for other relevant licence conditions.
