ONR Academy team recognised at Learning Technologies Award ceremony

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and its training Academy team, which manages all learning and development within ONR, were this week recognised at the final of the Learning Technologies Awards.

The ceremony for the 2022 Awards was held on Wednesday, 16 November in London, with the ONR Academy one of 11 candidates shortlisted in the ‘Excellence in the design of learning content – public and non-profit sector’ category.

Our entry featured a uniquely designed learning module on cybersecurity using the concept of an escape room to guide participants through a simulated cyber-attack.

It ties into our corporate security strategy and our strategic theme of ‘Modernising how we work’ as we seek to make the best of our specialist expertise and reflect the need for more collaboration, integration and transparency with staff and stakeholders alike.

The Learning Technologies Awards celebrate outstanding educational delivery from around the world, with more than 450 entries received for this year’s competition.

As part of the shortlisting, the ONR Academy team presented their work online to an independent judging panel, backed up by positive feedback from colleagues across ONR.

Kay Collier, Head of the ONR Academy, who attended the award ceremony along with other colleagues, said: “This was the first time we’ve ever entered an award, and the competition was strong with many large organisations being shortlisted.

“Making it to the final was a big coup for the team and it was wonderful to have the support across the whole of ONR.

“We embarked upon a new style of learning for this cybersecurity module and it paid off, with a real team effort from across the ONR Academy team, as well as members of the IT Directorate.”
