Breedon Trading Ltd has complied with a prohibition notice issued by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).
ONR served the company with the notice following a routine transport inspection of their Clatchard Quarry facility in Fife, Scotland in January 2023.
The inspection highlighted that the company had not carried out a suitable and sufficient radiation risk assessment for the transport of their nuclear density gauge - an instrument that uses a small amount of radioactive material to measure soil density.
There was no harm to employees, the public or the environment from the identified shortfalls.
Christopher Jones, an ONR principal inspector, said: “Since we served the notice on Breedon Trading Ltd they have notified us that they have sold and removed the nuclear density gauge from the site.
“Therefore, we are content that the company has no radioactive material that they intend to transport and is no longer in breach of the regulations.”
The prohibition notice was issued under Regulation 8 of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and Sections 2(1) and 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
