We note today’s launch of the government's Civil Nuclear Roadmap as part of its energy security plans and are ready to independently regulate the country's anticipated growing nuclear sector.
The UK has a widely respected regulatory system and ONR has been preparing for the expansion of new nuclear for some time.
We have undertaken work to streamline our regulatory processes and facilitate multilateral collaboration with international counterparts in preparation for our regulation of new technologies and development models.
We will also shortly launch our new framework for early regulatory engagement, enabling technology vendors and development companies to seek advice ahead of entering our formal processes.
ONR supports government across the new nuclear sector through forums including the Nuclear Skills Taskforce and Great British Nuclear and will continue to ensure our regulation is proportionate and robust to maintain safety and security standards.
