The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has agreed to extend an improvement notice after a scaffolder was injured by a defective light fitting at Hartlepool Nuclear Power Station.
The enforcement action was taken following a health and safety incident in February 2025, when the scaffolder, employed by an external company, sustained a minor burn to the back of their neck from the light fitting.
ONR has recognised that progress has been made by EDF in meeting the requirements of the notice and has granted a short extension.
This will allow the licensee to demonstrate suitable arrangements are in place to correctly assess the risks arising from identified defects to ensure the health and safety of workers.
ONR will continue to monitor the progress made to ensure full compliance, which is now scheduled for 15 August 2025.
