Information requested
I would like to know if you have any information on the proposed GDF site at Theddlethorpe, Lincolnshire.
It has recently been brought to our attention that RWM are beginning a process to explore the possibility of building a Nuclear Waste storage facility at the former ConocoPhillips site in Theddlethorpe.
I am a concerned local resident and so far we have limited information, only that which we can see on the RWM website.
I can see that the ONR also have to be involved and I take it “oversee the procedure”. If this is the case could you put me in contact with one of your team to discuss the exploratory processes and if we can be involved.
Information released
I can confirm that under Section 1 of the FOIA we do not hold the information you have specifically requested.
Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) is responsible for the nationwide process to identify a suitable site for the UK’s future Geological Disposal Facility (GDF). We therefore suggest that you make contact with them. Further information on how they work with communities in England and their contact details can be found in their Community Guidance document.
Our role in this is an independent regulator that will be responsible for ensuring that a GDF is safe and secure. As such, we have no direct role in the siting process nor have any decision-making responsibility to select a potential site for a GDF. However, we do support the process by providing information in relation to our regulatory role and responsibilities. Further information on this can be found on our website.
