Aim of inspection
The aim of this inspection was to gain assurances that the licensee’s arrangements for the care of installed assets are adequate and that those arrangements are being implemented on site in a suitable and sufficient way. This included sampling the arrangements of the licensee, its arrangements for controlling contractors on site and then sampling the implementation of those arrangements on site. The care of installed components is an important part of the construction of Hinkley Point C (HPC), as it should ensure that corrosion of the components is minimised, and that components will continue to meet any relevant specifications.

- LC28 - Examination, inspection, maintenance and testing - Rating: Green
Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made
ONR performed a joint inspection with NNB Generation Company (HPC) Ltd's Internal Nuclear Regulator into the asset care and site implementation of preservation and maintenance activities. We sampled the processes and procedures across the licensee, as well as their contractors: mechanical, electrical, and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning alliance (MEHA) and Bylor. We sampled the polar crane components in storage on site and emergency diesel generator tanks installed on site.
The processes, procedures and how they applied to the components sampled was adequate.
Conclusion
The processes and procedures in place to control asset care at HPC at the time of the intervention were judged to be adequate. This will need to be checked again once the rate of installation increases. A rating of Green (no formal action) was recorded against Licence Condition 28.
