Key findings, inspector’s opinions and reasons for judgement made
The inspection of The Royal Stoke hospital was unannounced, arising from from a transport spot check. Whilst carrying out the spot check, the opportunity to carry out an inspection was taken. The hospital has a number of departments where class 7 goods are used for diagnostic and research purposes, some of those goods having an extremely short half life, and others which have longer term storage, consignor, and disposal requirements.
Despite the inspection being unannounced all the staff seen were extremely co-operative and keen to demonstrate how they managed the receipt and return of class 7 goods. All relevant areas and paperwork were seen.
Conclusion
The hospital had no areas in their responsibility as both a consignee and consignor of class 7 material that caused me to rate them other than green for the thematic areas described elsewhere, for day time deliveries. I believe on the evidence shown to me on the day that day-time transport is well managed.
I believe this hospital to be low risk for day time transport activities. I believe night time deliveries need to be the subject of inspection, as the carrier might be making multiple deliveries.
