Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made
The inspector identified numerous examples of the duty holder meeting relevant good practice in reducing risk to levels that are ALARP, including; suitable IRR17 radiation risk assessments for the transport of x2 nuclear density gauges (NDG); HSE consent under IRR17; appropriate local rules and work instructions; transport contingency planning; training and plans for maintaining competence; procedures for the creation of transport plans and dangerous goods notes; arrangements for despatch, carriage, and return of NDG to storage bunker; arrangements for radiation protection programme, and its implementation; management system appropriate to the size of the duty holder.
Conclusion
The inspection findings were presented to IFA at the close of the inspection. There were no identified non-compliances, but the inspector made three observations which IFA committed to address.
I judged an overall rating of 'Green - no formal action' was appropriate for this inspection as there were no significant shortfalls identified in the delivery of safety.
