ONR presents at Future Nuclear Enabling Fund regulators' event

ONR has presented to a Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF) regulators' event, alongside colleagues from the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)-hosted meeting in London featured presentations from Tim Parkes, ONR's Head of Advanced Nuclear Technologies Regulation, and Robert Exley, ONR's Head of Generic Design Assessment.

The FNEF, launched by the government in May, is set to develop new nuclear energy projects across the UK, as outlined in their British Energy Security Strategy, BEIS has said.

On Thursday, ONR welcomed the opportunity to answer questions from other attending industry organisations, and potential applicants to the FNEF, about our regulatory processes and expectations.

Government announcements state that funding will be concentrated on a small number of projects with awards starting to be made from this summer.
