A team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has finished its review of ONR’s regulatory effectiveness.
The Integrated Regulatory Review Service has marked the end of their visit with a press release commenting on the progress made since the reviews in 2006 and 2009.
This year’s review focused on areas not looked at during previous missions including: waste management; decommissioning; radioactive sources; radiation protection and lessons from Fukushima.
Reflecting on the visit, ONR’s Chief Executive John Jenkins remarked: “We thank the IRRS team for their recent visit to the UK. The mission’s comments are testament to ONR's expertise, dedication and openness."
"ONR now looks forward to receiving the full report from the mission, the findings of which will be used to enhance our regulatory effectiveness as we progress to public corporation status. Finally, I would personally like to thank all ONR staff for their hard work and involvement in this year's Mission."
Consistent with previous missions, ONR will receive and publish the final report containing the mission’s findings and recommendations within 90 days.
You can read more about the mission on the ONR website.
