The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) continues to monitor events in Ukraine, particularly following last weekend's reports of shelling at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP).
ONR remains in very close contact with our international counterparts from around the world and shares the concerns voiced this week by the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (WENRA) about any weakening of the safety level of ZNPP, especially the electrical power supply status.
We continue to engage with other global agencies, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) and the Heads of the European Radiological Protection Competent Authorities (HERCA) about the ongoing conflict and any current or future risk to civil nuclear facilities in Ukraine.
WENRA's latest position statement on last weekend's developments, issued yesterday, can be read here.
