The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) can confirm that Dubai National Air Travel Agency Limited (Dnata Ltd) has complied with an ONR improvement notice served for shortfalls in the provision of risk assessments for the transport of radioactive materials.
Dnata Ltd transports a wide variety of radioactive material for use in the medical and industry sectors, internationally to and from the UK by air, and between its UK sites.
Transport arrangements for radioactive material must meet strict regulatory requirements to protect workers and the public.
A routine compliance inspection on 18 January of the company's site in Stanwell, Surrey, found that Dnata Ltd had not carried out suitable and sufficient risk assessments identifying the measures needed to restrict exposure to ionising radiation during transport.
As a result, this notice was served on 25 January under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017.
There were no consequences to the public or the environment as a result of the shortfall, and Dnata Ltd have complied with the improvement notice ahead of the 28 April deadline.
Geoff Frackelton, Head of ONR’s Transport Competent Authority, said: “We have engaged with Dnata Ltd since we served the improvement notice and are satisfied that they have now addressed the shortfall and have adequate risk assessments in place for the transport of radioactive material.”
