The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has signed an Information Exchange Agreement (IEA) with India’s Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) to promote safety and security in nuclear operations.
This five-year agreement strengthens the relationship between the two regulators, with commitments to information sharing to help with learning and to reflect good practice.
The agreement also bring benefits of employee exchange and shared participation in courses, secondments and seminars.
Joint research groups may also be set up to collaborate on nuclear and safety related research.
Mark Foy, ONR’s Chief Nuclear Inspector and Chief Executive Officer, said: “Signing this IEA will enable ONR and AERB to work together on regulatory issues of common interest, ensuring the high standards of nuclear safety and security are maintained.
“We look forward to working closely with AERB and seeing the nuclear safety and security benefits that this will bring.”
Shri Dinesh Kumar Shukla, AERB’s Chairman, said: “The IEA between ONR and AERB is a testimony to the shared goals of both regulatory authorities towards continually improving safety regulations and regulatory practices through structured experience sharing and information exchanges.
“We are looking forward to a mutually-enriching experience and fruitful cooperation.”
