Question 1

Dutyholders are not required by legislation to provide key performance indicators and therefore ONR does not hold this information.  If Sellafield Ltd has set internal key performance indicators in these areas they would hold this information and therefore they should be contacted directly. Please see the following link for further contact details:

However, the Nuclear Installations Act 1965 and the Nuclear Industries (Dangerous Occurrences) Regulations 1965 do require dutyholders to report nuclear and radiological safety incidents in accordance with this legislation.  ONR reports all such incidents on a quarterly basis on the ONR website at Quarterly statements of nuclear incidents at nuclear installations

In addition, reportable incidents are now also contained within the Chief Nuclear Inspector’s (CNI) annual report.  The inaugural 2018/19 report can be found at CNI's Annual Report on GB's Nuclear Industry. The CNI report for 2019/20 is currently being compiled and will be published on the ONR website when complete, currently scheduled for October 2020.

ONR has also published two previous reports covering “Events reported to nuclear safety regulator” for the periods 2001 to 2015 and 2015 to 2017. These can also be found on the ONR website under corporate publications at:

  • Events reported to the Nuclear Safety Regulator in the period of 1 April 2001 to 31 March 2015
  • Nuclear Safety and Radiological Safety Events Reported to ONR April 2015 to December 2017
