Question 1
United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) aims to process 85% of Developed Vetting (DV) clearances within 95 days. We have no such key performance indicator (KPI), although we too aim to deliver a turnaround within a further 95 days.
Over the last ten years, the average time it has taken the Civil Nuclear Security and Safeguards (CNSS) directorate to assess a DV (following receipt of the investigation data from UKSV) has been 12 days. This figure has been gleaned from an analysis of the figures from 1 April 2013 – 1 April 2024.
The last 12 months have seen a marked increase in time to deliver clearances. We assess the average figure for time taken to deliver confirmation of a clearance is now 38 days.
Question 2
From 1 April 2013 to 1 April 2024, our data shows that CNSS has notified 25 subjects of an intention to deny their DV clearance application, with eight cases being issued an intention to deny over the past 12 months.
Further information
Please note that for data prior to 1 April 2014, there is a reduced level of confidence in its accuracy due to its historic nature.
