Executive summary

Purpose of Intervention

This was one of a series of planned inspections for the Trawsfynydd licensed site for 2019/20. The site is licensed to Magnox Limited.

I undertook an Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 inspection of the site.

Explanation of Judgement if Safety System Not Judged to be Adequate

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

Through discussions with Magnox Limited employees, contractors and Radiological Protection Engineer’s on the site, it was noted there was an adequate safety culture with individuals suitability qualified for their respective roles. 

From inspecting several facilities, the areas and housekeeping were found to be in an adequate state.

From inspecting several facilities and discussions with the Radiological Protection Engineers, there are adequate arrangements in place for Radon management.

Compliance with the requirements of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 was judged overall to be adequate. ONR advised on a number of minor areas for improvement in order to achieve a better alignment with published relevant good practice.  

Conclusion of Intervention

Compliance with the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 was judged to be of an adequate standard with some minor opportunities identified for further improvement, which were discussed and agreed with the licensee.
