Purpose of Intervention
I carried out a System Based Inspection (SBI) as part of a series of planned inspections at the Magnox Ltd (ML) Chapelcross (CHX) decommissioning site during 2021/22.
Interventions Carried Out by ONR
I carried out an SBI on CHX’s implementation of their LC10, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28 and 34 arrangements for MAC ILW retrieval operations during August and October 2021. I also held an update meeting with the CHX Safety Representatives.

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made
From the documentation examined and the areas inspected, I found that CHX’s implementation of its LC 10, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, and 34 arrangements was adequate and that the MAC retrievals safety system adequately fulfils the requirements of the safety case.
Conclusion of Intervention
I judged that ML’s implementation of its LC10, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, and 34 arrangements for CHX MAC ILW retrievals as adequate in the areas inspected. I did not identify any significant regulatory concerns.
