Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made
The inspectors reviewed a range of topics and identified a number of examples of City Hospital, part of Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust (SWBH), meeting relevant good practice in reducing risk to levels that are ALARP. These included having appropriate IRR17 Regulations 6 and 7 Registration and Consents, transport Radiation Risk Assessments, Local Rules, IRR17 contingency plans, transport documents, vehicle equipment and placards, Safety Adviser reports, training and training records, management systems and appropriate appointment of Safety Advisers and Radiation Protection Supervisors,
No non-compliances were identified but the inspectors made some observations regarding improvements to SWBH's arrangements in line with relevant good practice.
Conclusion
The inspection findings were presented to SWBH at the close of the inspection.
We judged an overall inspection rating of green was appropriate for this inspection.
No non-compliances were identified but the inspectors made some observations regarding improvements to SWBH's arrangements in line with relevant good practice.
One observation related to more robustly demonstrating compliance with ADR 6.4.7 'Requirements for Type A packages' for the in-house Type A package SWBH has designed, had manufactured and uses to consign Krypton generators. SWBH committed to provide an updated demonstration of compliance to ONR by 31 August 2023.
