Aim of inspection

The purpose of the inspection was to review compliance of Pharmaron (Cardiff Site) arrangements for class 7 radioactive material for road transport, covering consignor/ consignee duties.

Key findings, inspector’s opinions and reasons for judgement made

The inspector reviewed a range of topics and identified a number of examples of Pharmaron relevant good practice in reducing risk to levels that are ALARP, including appropriate appointment of Safety Advisers and Radiation Protection Advisors and Supervisors. The provision of appropriate Radiation Protection Supervisor training, an appropriate Safety Advisers annual report and a valid certificate of compliance for the transport package used.

The inspectors identified one minor non-compliance relating to Contingency plans, a Level 4 Regulatory Issue has been raised on this area.  The duty holder should respond with a plan to resolve this non-compliance by 7 November 2023.

The inspectors made some observations and discussed these during the inspection.

Conclusion

The inspection findings were presented to Pharmaron at the close of the inspection.

The inspectors judged an overall inspection rating of ‘Green’ – with one formal action raised via a Level 4 RI was appropriate for this inspection.
